This refresher covers two courses: Confined Space Entry and Gas Testing.
Confined Space Entry
Working in confined spaces significantly increases the risks to a worker’s health and safety. The tasks and space can combine in dangerous ways, such as low workable atmosphere levels, increased risk of combustion, or difficulty in extracting workers safely.
This means that when working in a confined space, competency to identify and control all hazards that the space and task present; to develop and implement emergency planning in case things go wrong; and to use permit-to-work systems effectively is required. The refresher covers these three areas.
Gas Testing
When working in confined spaces, there is a potential risk that the level of oxygen is impaired. This can arise from the contents of the space such as a build-up of methane in mine shafts or the activity being undertaken.
Gas testing will enable the stand-by person to monitor the atmosphere and be alerted to any changes that threaten the worker in the space. It is necessary to have competent gas test practitioners in businesses where there is the need for confined space work activity.

ICAM Awareness
If you’re not involved in an investigation, but still need a clear understanding of the ICAM process, this ICAM Awareness course will provide knowledge on obligations for securing the scene, providing evidence as required, and understanding corrective actions.
Confined Space Entry
The hazards common to confined spaces can be difficult to detect without knowledge and specialist equipment. Anyone who enters a confined space must have a good understanding of the special hazards and control measures involved.

Energy Isolation
Energy sources in the workplace need to be controlled and often isolated to safely access machinery or any mechanised system. Incidents occur when there’s a lack of isolation systems and a lack of employee knowledge of the hazards associated with plant and equipment.
